New York Jets coach Rex Ryan to be named as interim head coach

NEW YORK — The Jets are officially in the process of interviewing for a new head coach, the team announced on Thursday.

The announcement comes after the Jets and the Jetsons agreed to a one-year extension worth $1.9 million per season.

Ryan, the Jets’ former defensive coordinator who also coached in the NFL, is one of the few names the Jets have publicly addressed as a candidate.

The team is also in talks with former Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, a longtime NFL executive and coach, for the job.
