And this summer, a bill introduced in Congress would end that practice altogether.
But that’s not the only problem with the new law.
Critics of the law say it would undermine the ability of the studios to attract and retain the talent they need to continue producing quality films.
And while Hollywood has largely resisted the new crackdown, there are some studios that appear willing to go along.
